How to GREEN CLEAN your HOME - 1-800-RID-OF-IT Junk Removal Vancouver

It's that time of year again!  Time to dig out your basements and garages of all the unwanted clutter that has accumulated over the last year.  Furniture, mattresses, electronics, even that old pair of skis!

Furniture:  Many organizations, including the Salvation Army and Developmental Disabilities association, will accept large furniture items for donation.  However, the Homestart Foundation will pick up your gently used items from your home or business.  The Homestart foundation works with people and families who have recently been placed in new housing.  In many cases these families have nothing.  With your help, Homestart can turn housing into homes.

Small items:  Toasters, plates, even old phones.  These items are gladly accepted by Gather and Give.  Gather and Give works with a number of non profit organizations, including Homestart, to provide families in need with basic house hold furnishings.

Electronics:  Electronic items such as computers and televisions are no longer accepted at landfills.  These items can be dropped off to various Return It locations.  Looking to donate your computer?  An organization called Free Geek will arange to pick up your old computer equipment.  They will wipe your hard drive, fix up your computer and then deliver it to a school.

Clothing: The Developmental Disabilty Association has drop off bins located through out the lower mainland.  Click here for a list of drop off locations. 

General Recycling:  The BC Recycling Council has a great website and support program.  You can contact their hotline, 604-RECYCLE (732-9253) from 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday to inquire about how to recycle or dispose of anything.

Paint & Pesticides:  Productcare.org is a website set up to facilitate the recycling of paint.  Any household paint can be dropped off at any of their depots.  Click through to Productcare.org for a link to a map of their drop off locations.

Batteries:  Household batteries can bedropped of for recycling at Future shop and Bestbuy.  Car batteries can be taken to Canadian Tire or a Wastech disposal facility.

Tire:  Tire recycling is handled by the Tire Stewardship council of BC.  Individuals can take up to 4 tires to  Kal Tire, Canadian Tire or Fountain Tire.  For larger volumes, please contact Pacific Shredding.
